One by One

woman-fistula.jpgFounded by Seattle Landmark Forum graduate Heidi Breeze-Harris in her Self-Expression and Leadership program when she was pregnant, One by One seeks to end obstetric fistula, an extremely debiliating childbearing injury resulting from an obstructed birth that produces a hole in a women’s body. In addition to the child dying, fistula causes its victims to be crippled, incontinent and infertile. A simple procedure costing only a few hundred dollars repairs the damage, but most women in the developing world, 2 million of which are affected by obstetric fistula, cannot afford it. One by One raises money for community programs and medical facilities in the developing world that both perform this procedure and train others in how to do it. One by One has raised over $300,000 for these procedures since being founded by Breeze-Harris a few years ago. Visit One by One’s website here.
